Cats

Yes, I know that title is a little silly.

Lucy has never had problems going in her box, never had problems with other animals in the house and using her box, never had problems. We, we have had problems.

We are also not very good at transitioning her from food brand to food brand. It’s generally very abrupt. Not exactly the best for the Luce.

Good news though is that Lucy is a fairly sturdy cat. No sicknesses in the years I have been her mom and no major issues aside from a flea bloom now and again. Totally normal stuff. Hardy kitteh.

Recently with our crazy hot weather I made the executive decision to move her off of 100% dry kibble. We’re giving her 1/4 of a can of wet foot and 1/4 cup scoop of kibble and mixing them together.

Reasons?

  1. 1. It’s hot and I don’t think she’s drinking water as often as she should be. We removed her collar since we moved into the new place (there’s no physical way she can get outside) so I don’t get an audable tell when her tag clanks against her water bowl.
  2. 2. She was barely eating. We originally moved her to a higher density food and actually portioning her for her size and age. But then she just decided that she didn’t want the dry stuff.

So, to a mix we go!

What we’re feeding her:

Wellness brand wet food and I and Love and You Ultimate dry kibble. She’s scarfing it down like there’s no tomorrow. =D Her weight hasn’t increased too much either, thankfully. She was, as my brother called her, sausage cat. Since her back legs are a little sensitive due to a fall early in her life, I was worried that her weight was making her hurt. She’s pretty spry now and doesn’t immediately rage when you touch her backside. SUCCESS!

Now as for poop mountain. Her poops don’t stink. I’m serious.

We have Ever Clean cat litter, which in of itself is FAR SUPERIOR to Arm & Hammer. And her box is larger than her old one. She’s happily pooping away in the back of it, while peeing in the front near the entrance/exit…yay. But no really. Her poop is no longer smelling rancid or like what she had just eaten (fishy or chickeny smell). Which makes me happy. And happy for her.

Large healthy kitteh poops!!

If you think that means I’ve found some magical cure to getting poop not to smell, I’m sorry to say I have not. Poop is still poop and smells like poop.

Ok, I’ll see myself out now… XD

I always want my kitty around.

She makes me laugh and smile.

I always want my kitty around to cuddle.

Even when it results in the vile.

Yup, the Lucy-furr has started biting aggressively again on a regular basis. It may indeed be entirely my fault though. I started feeding her wet food semi-regularly and now she demands it every meal. Nope, kitty. Not going to do it. Continue reading Wet Cat Food: You’re Going to Have a Bad Time

At the end of last month I took a short trip up to Seattle via Amtrak to visit my friends. We hit up two famous places: Churchmouse Yarns and Uwajimaya. Yes, there is an Uwajimaya here in Beaverton, but holy smokes this places was about twice as big in all respects: larger grocery, larger home goods area, larger Kinokuniya bookstore.

Here are the pics of the AB products I got at Uwajimaya. I’ve already detailed them in IMGUR so I’m not going to duplicate that content here. Enjoy! Continue reading Seatle Jan-Feb Photo Dump: Cats, Food, Fun!

How to gently snuggle Lucy in various ways for various purr sound-effects.

1. The Basic Snuggle

The basic snuggle requires little to zero interaction. This is when Lucy is either nestled close by or partially on top of the lap. Her purrs at this point can either sound like a concerted effort or a small snorting type exhalation purr where the purr itself is a little harsh and easily heard between breaths.

2. The Hard Purr

The hard purr is much louder than the basic snuggle purr and is usually audible in the same way as the basic snuggle. The different being that it’s louder and comes about when one shifts or moves while Lucy is in a basic snuggle mode.

3. The I HATE YOU

Yes, Lucy purrs when she’s about to attack you. This usually comes about when she’s in any of her snuggle modes and you are moving too much for her to be comfortable. If your arms are moving at a rate she doesn’t like or in a motion she doesn’t like. The purrs get quieter and quieter, and when you least expect it. BITE.

4. The Eyes

Her most gentlest of purrs happen when she’s either fallen asleep or she’s making eye contact/blinking at me. This phase comes right before reaching extreme comfort mode and she falls asleep.

5. The Chest Purr – the rarest of purrs

This is her most rapid purr. To achieve this purr, one must gently accept the Lucy onto ones lap. And then if she wants a head or cheek rub one can gently snuggle Lucy’s head against the chest with both hands while keeping an eye on tail and ear signals. The purr is loud and rapid, which is different from the Hard Purr where it is just loud and sounds like she is laboring to purr as loud as possible.

Out and about this Easter Sunday I happened upon a neighborhood cat in the Alphabet District. Little guy was not interested in people, but rather on munching the green-way greens.

I got a few shots of him partaking of his daily green. I’m pretty sure he knew what he was doing. The area is not exactly pet friendly in that there is a lot of car traffic along NW 23rd. Cat seemed pretty content to saunter up to the patches of grass and take himself a few mouth-fulls.

Knitting progress…? Ok so it’s coming down to the wire here. March is almost done so I have to hurry up on the crown decreases of my Beeswax hat so I can start April’s KAL project. Additionally I need to get crackin’ on a hat for my cousin’s wife. ALSO I need to finish up my Campside shawl for my other cousin’s wedding next next weekend which I will be presenting to her and my other FO I need to make as well as give my Poe shawl to my mother’s cousin. Eek!

Here’s an update as well on how the hair is holding up!

Looking pretty awesome to me. The perm is still there so it’s slightly wavy. I still haven’t gotten used to the fact that my hair is this awesome color. XD I got a lot of compliments over the weekend though! Every time I look in the mirror, a window reflection, etc…surprise!!! PURPLE HAIR!!!

It’s been a pretty epic week and a half here. Definitely the longest I’ve ever celebrated anything. Thanks for the love everyone! <3
