Snuggles

How to gently snuggle Lucy in various ways for various purr sound-effects.

1. The Basic Snuggle

The basic snuggle requires little to zero interaction. This is when Lucy is either nestled close by or partially on top of the lap. Her purrs at this point can either sound like a concerted effort or a small snorting type exhalation purr where the purr itself is a little harsh and easily heard between breaths.

2. The Hard Purr

The hard purr is much louder than the basic snuggle purr and is usually audible in the same way as the basic snuggle. The different being that it’s louder and comes about when one shifts or moves while Lucy is in a basic snuggle mode.

3. The I HATE YOU

Yes, Lucy purrs when she’s about to attack you. This usually comes about when she’s in any of her snuggle modes and you are moving too much for her to be comfortable. If your arms are moving at a rate she doesn’t like or in a motion she doesn’t like. The purrs get quieter and quieter, and when you least expect it. BITE.

4. The Eyes

Her most gentlest of purrs happen when she’s either fallen asleep or she’s making eye contact/blinking at me. This phase comes right before reaching extreme comfort mode and she falls asleep.

5. The Chest Purr – the rarest of purrs

This is her most rapid purr. To achieve this purr, one must gently accept the Lucy onto ones lap. And then if she wants a head or cheek rub one can gently snuggle Lucy’s head against the chest with both hands while keeping an eye on tail and ear signals. The purr is loud and rapid, which is different from the Hard Purr where it is just loud and sounds like she is laboring to purr as loud as possible.

Lucy has a talent of presenting her paws when cozied up for snuggles in bed.

One paw out means she’s pretty relaxed and doesn’t mind a bit of jostling that occurs when we join her. Two paws out means she’s pretty much ready for sleep if not already asleep. Warm enough that she isn’t balled up or harassing us for comfort.

Only when two paws are out and crossed am I allowed to safely touch her jelly beans.

Granted she bit me a lot last night because I wouldn’t let her rub her cold wet nose all over my arm: dab dab dab hey wake up and pay attention to me dabdabdab meowwwm.

Lucy has started a habit of getting into bed before either of us are ready. She usually pads down for the night in one of the chairs, so when I haven’t been able to find her, she’s been on the bed napping. I’m not sure why she’s doing that since the apartment isn’t very cold; and especially last night since I was cooking chicken. Totally not like her to be dis-interested. I guess taking care of her dad who was home all day yesterday with a cold tired her little kittiness out.

I’ve been sick with the flu the past two weeks. And of course the oblivious princess insisted on sitting on me at every possible moment I was horizontal. So that ended not super well. Kitty got no snuggles for about a week and a half. Despite the glorious mid-day sun she was not happy about it.

Once I got well enough…about Thursday of last week, Lucy was allowed on my chest again. And blep’ed really hard.

Lucy cat loves to snuggle. And when she snuggles she purrs…and this ultimately leads to drooling. Drooling by itself is generally a dab or two of moisture on my person. Today, Lucy has scored herself a new place in which her drool has graced my presence. My face.

The nimble little butterfly jumped onto my lap as I was reading the internet as usual. And while this behavior is normal, what is not normal is for her to purr and make biscuits to indicate a lack of kibble in her bowl. The normal m/o for this is to sit on my lap and then mouth my arm or my hand, whichever is closest. Today she merely sat in the floor looking pathetic, and when she got tired of that she came up and started being sweet on me. Maybe it’s the heat, maybe it’s because I’ve been home all afternoon…but the little beast was pinning me with her claws so I did what all fur parents do and picked her up under her from arms and lifted her up. Kitty face directed downwards towards my own.

That’s when it happened.

Lucy drooled on my face. And I am glad I had my mouth closed. O.O

Kibble replenished; no more love from Lucy.
